Assessment Reform : End SATs
"It's official. Both the Union and our colleagues in the NAHT are balloting heads, deputies and assistant heads with a view to boycotting the KS2 SATs this year.
This is a trade dispute concerning leadership group members' conditions of service. Action taken would, of course, not be strike action. Schools would be open and children taught. The ballot will open on 15 March and close at midday on 16 April. Both the NUT and the NAHT encourage those balloted to vote 'YES'.
This boycott is separate from but runs parallel to our general educational campaign against SATs. We have powerful public support for this campaign - including from politicians, parents, academics and authors. Below is information for leadership group members on the trade dispute and industrial action ballot and for classroom teachers and parents on how they can get involved in our educational campaign."

Make your mark - General election materials for members
This election will be the most hotly contested of recent times and the outcome will have important consequences for all of us working in education. Even if you don’t consider yourself particularly interested in politics, or are completely fed up with politicians in general, the NUT is urging you to make your mark during this election.
The NUT is not affiliated to any political party but our newly established political fund means it is the first general election in which we can campaign specifically against the racist and fascist policies of the BNP.
To help you make an informed choice at election time see the election pack below.

No to licence to practise
The NUT's campaign against the licence to practise for teachers is building momentum. NUT members across the Union have publicised the campaign amongst colleagues, but we urgently need a final push if we are to persuade the Government to think again.
The NUT has been consistent and concerted in its opposition to plans for teachers to undergo relicensing every five years since this was first proposed by the Government in June of last year.

Let your MP know about the problems with the new Ofsted framework
The NUT has been flooded with letters and emails from teachers concerned about the new Ofsted inspection framework. We have received many shocking stories about how it has been applied in schools.
